Classroom Response System “Clickers”
Since Spring 2009, CITS/Instructional Development has been recommending and supporting the iClicker classroom response system, also known as “clickers’. Instead of physical iClicker devices, UMass Dartmouth now supports the iClicker REEF app for smart phones and web browsers
CITS Instructional Development has chosen to standardize and provide support for the iClicker upon the following criteria:
Instructors can use iClicker Cloud 5.0 to ask questions during class that students answer from their laptop, smartphone, or tablet. After students answer a question, the instructor can spark discussion by analyzing the results with the class. The iClicker Cloud 5.0 software keeps track of every question and class session in a grade book so it is easy to go back and track your students participation throughout the semester.
iClicker is free for instructors, but there is a cost for students. All students receive a free 14-day trial when they sign up.
Instructors have prepared or can create on-the-fly questions during a lecture. Students use their clickers to then answer questions in real time and are stored in software on the instructor’s computer/laptop. Summaries of the answers can then be provided instantly to the instructor and student usually as a graphic and can also be stored for later viewing and reporting.
